CUTTING COMMISSIONS…CAN’T BELIEVE SELLERS STILL ASK THIS QUESTION!
Cutting commissions…can’t believe sellers still ask this question!
Well, I finished up a CMA for one of my clients who will be selling. What I find interesting is that sellers still ask about reducing commission! In this market! Sellers should pay us more! And I don’t mean that arrogantly! I mean that in a heartfelt way! Unfortunately, sellers get a little short-sighted. They are only looking at how much is this going to cost. And they are thinking too narrowly. (is narrowly a word?) What they should be asking is ‘How much is this going to cost me?’ Sound like the same question? Think again! The initial question is purely based on commission alone. The second question is looking at the whole big picture! Imagine an agent reduces their commission. What, then, are they going to pay out to a buyer agent? Also, what kind of service are they going to get on a reduced rate? And third, if the agent can’t defend their own pay, how are they going to be strong enough to defend the client’s price? A seller more than ever before needs to put their best foot forward. They need to have the best agent on their side!
